Woven garden furniture has taken the world outdoor furniture market by storm. Man-made and natural materials can be used to create woven furniture, however many of the natural materials are unsuitable for outdoor use . Sea grass, rattan peel (made from cane) and core rattan are naturally grown in huge quantities in tropical climates such as Indonesia. Once harvested they are prepared into size and colour then woven around a frame, usually cane or wood. The furniture is then colour treated using stain and finished either matt or gloss. Recent trends show that matt finished conservatory and garden furniture is more popular in the UK market. Sea grass and rattan furniture are perfect in hot or cold conditions however they are not suitable outdoors. Rattan will unfortunately dry up and become brittle when left out in wet conditions and Sea grass, if left outdoors with absorb the moisture and become prone to mould. Man-made synthetic materials are ideal when making garden furniture. When a high quality resin is used your woven garden furniture should be UV resistant, water repellent, mould repellent and retain its colour. Woven synthetic furniture can be left out in all conditions, from the frosts in winter to the heat waves in summer, and unlike wood and teak garden furniture, synthetic woven furniture is virtually maintenance free. The resin can be made of various thicknesses offering wider choice in the design process. The nature of woven furniture allows the garden furniture designers freedom to design either classic or contemporary furniture to cater for all households.
