Seagrass Conservatory FurnitureSeagrass is a natural material grown in the wild wetlands of South-East Asia. The process of making Seagrass furniture is extremely labour intensive with very rewarding results. Once the crop is harvested the Seagrass is hand twisted to create a rope like material, with extremely strong qualities. Each piece of Seagrass used in the making of our conservatory furniture is approximatally 10 metres long, and hand woven around either a cane or hardwood frame. Seagrass is ideal for use in a conservatory because it can cope with very high and extremely low temperatures (like a south facing Summer conservatory or a winter conservatory). The material does not expand and contract like wood and is largely unaffected by temperature. Over the years consumers have trialled many different types of conservatory furniture. In the turn of the century a lot of leather furniture was sold for use in conservatory, but after a short time the leather would shrivel up and most would discolour. Seagrass will not shrivel nor discolour over the years. Seagrass conservatory furniture is a current trend and we feel it is here to stay. 2011 conservatory furniture sales have shown a dramatic increase in the sale of Seagass furniture, with our Tioman Seagrass collection now our best seller. This high back, comfortable suite is built on a hardwood frame, not only look great but built to last. Poor Quality Seagrass: Like any natural product you can purchase different grades from the supplier. We only use the finest grade ‘A’ Seagrass available. However it is possible to purchase poor quality seagrass, the main fault with this is it’s colour and feel. Poor quality seagrass is a lot harder to work with so fortunately rarer to come by. A supplier selling low quality seagrass furniture will tend to be cut corners in other ways; look out for flat pack furniture (cheaper quality) and seagrass built on a cane frame. If you are looking for a high quality Seagrass conservatory sofa and armchair set we can help you. If you do not like the models and designs on offer please speak to our sales team because we can manufacture custom made furniture for you (subject to longer delivery lead-times).
