Rattan Sofas - Care and Maintenance
If a rattan sofa is properly cared for, it can last for more than 50 years, regardless of the place of usage. They can be kept in the garden, verandah, or the recreation room, outdoors or indoors, or conservatory furniture, as the transportation is quite easy because of its lightweight and flexibility and the care that has to be taken is again not so difficult or tedious. The raw materials that are used in the production of outdoor rattan furniture are inexpensive and eco-friendly as they are a naturally grown material.
Cleaning rattan sofas
It is very easy to clean rattan outdoor sofas. If dust, mildew or mold accumulates on them, all they need is periodic wiping with a wet cloth. If dirt or mud gets on to the rattan furniture and sticks to them as in the case of these furniture being kept in the lawn or verandah where Tennis courts or Cricket grounds exist, a thorough wiping with some detergent and water would do the trick. Once in two months, depending on the weather and usage, a light coat of varnish is suggested for added weatherproofing and shine.
Repairing
As the raw material is inexpensive and flexible, rattan sofas can be simply repaired by removing the weaving on the exact place where the damage has occurred and by redoing the weaving with newly treated rattan skin. If the core used in the furniture is also damaged, it too can be replaced with a new piece of rattan stem, the shape being achieved quite easily because of its flexibility. Even if the shape is difficult to achieve for some of the parts, a skilled craftsman who is specialized in the repair of these furniture can do it. It is as simple as mending a wooden fence.
Extra tips
Though they are strong and flexible, exposure to excess sunlight, water and rainy weather has to be avoided for lasting look and usage.
