Garden Furniture & Outdoor Living

Our gardens have now become an extension of our homes - an outdoor room for entertaining, dining or relaxing.

Gardening has become a hugely popular hobby for both young and old. We are spending more time in our gardens either working or relaxing and enjoying our labors and environment we have created.

The garden furniture we choose has become equally important as choosing furniture for our homes. We love dining outdoors and even the weather is not a deterrent anymore in the age of awnings, patio heaters and log burners. The time we spend in the garden makes the furniture we choose an important decision that reflects our personality and style we wish to create.

Garden furniture has evolved dramatically even from twenty years ago when white plastic was very fashionable. Light to handle and move around, easy to wash down and keep clean but it tended to go yellow with age. Today garden furniture has become very stylish and more sophisticated.

Teak garden furniture is extremely popular. It looks rustic and blends in beautifully in the garden. Teak is a very hardy wood which can be left out all year round without deteriorating. With age without being treated will fade to a silvery colour which looks attractive and natural in a garden. Teak garden products available include tables, chairs, benches, and loungers. Teak is very hardy, solid and versatile. The only drawback is it can be very heavy to lift and move around.

Aluminum/Stainless Steel garden furniture has also become a very popular product.  Like teak it can also be left outside all year without deteriorating. It is light to lift but strong and sturdy. Aluminum furniture is stylish and attractive – it comes in various designs some being very ornate. Not only does this furniture come in the original metallic silver colour it looks very effective and in keeping painted in black, green or white. All of which look more in keeping in the garden, on patios and cobbles.

Wicker and cane can look beautiful in our gardens and was used predominantly in the early days before plastic and aluminum garden furniture was made. Although wicker looks fitting and elegant it will deteriorate if left out in all weathers. It has to be protected from rain and stored away in the winter.

Today we can achieve the same effect of wicker furniture in the garden with a new product on the market made from polyethylene using thru-dye, hand-woven synthetic hularo fibers. It is a toxic free material, which does not fade and it can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. It is UV resistant and frost proof so withstanding extreme temperatures of all seasons.

Whatever effect we would like to create in our garden whether it is contemporary, classic or a simple country look there is so much to choose from today.
